I remember back in 1984/5 going here in High School, 28 years later I introduced my Wife and children to this great place. Having been away from St Pete for 21 years I was sure they weren't there but was I wrong. The food is second to none! Pizza is fresh, hot and more than we can eat but it makes great snacks later. The ziti, sausage and peppers, meatballs, marinara, stuffed mushrooms, lasagna, spaghetti and meat sauce, sandwiches, salads and. Calzones are nothing short of authentic Italian delight. My family dines here every Friday without fail and have no plans to go anywhere else, the staff is phenomenal, the way they make you feel like family and treat the smallest of children screams you must try Italia Mia'. See you there Friday evening and be prepared to wait around 6:00 pm as they fill up, the wait is worth it for the quality and enjoyment of both food and atmosphere.

The best Italian restaurant around much better than even the over priced Italian restaurants in the area!!!

This place has been in the same spot for 25 years or so. The pizza and subs are very good. The dinners are cheap and also very good. Portion size is above avg. Only complaint is they are closed on Mondays.

I used to frequent this place for lunch when I worked nearer several years ago. I was in the area, saw it was still there and had to stop in. Gladly, everything is the same. They have my absolute favorite lasagna. Be warned, it does not visually resemble lasagna as you may be used to seeing it in cookbooks or other restaurants, but it is my favorite. Tons of meat, cheese and noodles in a bubbling tomato sauce. I fortunately remembered not to eat all of the bread rolls, which are wonderful, with the salad because dipping it into that bubbling sauce on the lasagna was also something I enjoyed. Pizza is good with a nice fresh crust. Full Italian menu. Not all that attractive for decor but it is a strip mall restaurant. The food is the attraction and that lasagna gets 5 stars from me.

Pretty good actually not our first time here - but first time in awhile. Very pizzeria setting. Has not changed in appearance - has not changed at all. Very small but always busy. Wine selection ummmmm red or white? lol jk they have a chianti merlot and two others. They cant tell you the make lol kinda funny. Fresh home baked rolls that were about as much as eating a sandwich but they were good. I ordered chicken parmigiana, with salad and spaghetti came on the side. OMG I didn't even finish one of the pieces of chicked I could only eat a quarter. It was great just OMG portions are silly they should try that family dinning where everyone orders a dish each and everyone splits. Oh well! all 5 dogs (4 ours 1 my friends (pit)) were happy, for the next month lol Crazy if Ramsey showed up you would here him for blocks. On a good note I could taste the sauce and it was wonderful. I will go back just a little more careful of what I order.

The food here is excellent, viking sized portions. Location is a bit cramped but hey when you have a winning restaurant you don't go crazy changing things. I come here often the pricing is fair and quality of food is great.

OMG! Hands down the best bread on a meatball sub in St. Petersburg. My father bought us 2 subs and some garlic knots. We split each sub between three people and it was more than enough to share. Would really love to try there pizza, let's just say I'll be back. It's nice to be able to get some good Italian eats for a decent price.

My family & I have been getting take-out here since the early 80's. Italia Mia is as GOOD as it gets! My cranky NY/NJ friends have even declared this the BEST "NY style" pizza they've ever had outside of the North. A very rare award indeed! As for the pizza? It's true NY style: firm, but foldable crust, AWESOME marinara, great cheese, and not skimpy on toppings. My Mom swears by the baked, stuffed shells. I bet she would eat this dish daily, (if her cardiologist would allow it!). GREAT ricotta stuffing, covered with a massive blanket of mozzarella cheese, yet again smothered in their MAGIC marinara sauce. Nothing frozen! All homemade... Either on pizza or a baked sub, the meatballs are to die for! I pride myself and get many compliments on my meatball recipe, yet these are just as good, if not better? (sniff!) The #11 cold Italian sub is really, really excellent and addictive. I had a good friend move away West from here for 20 years. Upon her recent return to our area, her first request was to go and get an Italia Mia #11 sub! Now that is an awesome and rare recommendation! I cannot comment on the wait staff, as I only get take-out. My only request? It would be to use fresh mushrooms, not canned. But in the overall picture it matters very little. The marinara is sooo good, it is easily overlooked. I noticed pizza prices have been steadily rising? Blame inflation, not Italia Mia. Quality ingredients cost more. I prefer to pay a bit more than eat slop, and Italia Mia knows this! I laugh at the comment about "grumpy" service but totally understand. Why? Most often when I call to other take-out joints, especially at weekend prime-time, I get LONG wait times - often 45 minutes plus... Yet at their weekend busiest, Italia Mia take-out is always just 15 minutes? Wow!! I have been getting take-out here for 30 years now and always seem to get the same older counter guy with the moustache, hat, and curly hair. While not a "soup-Nazi," nor mean, I do understand the "grumpy" bit. I think it's just that this guy is sooo busy getting take-out orders out in just 15 minutes, that I believe he has little time to "make friends." Frankly, Italia Mia's food is so awesome, that guy could cuss me out in Italian each visit, and I would gladly come back again, and again, and....... A treasure for real Italian food in Pinellas county... Bravo!!

This is a hidden gem in St Pete that I hope the rest of the Bay Area doesn't find!! Small dinning room with less than 20 tables. the food is GREAT pizza lasagna pasta is the best in town huge I mean HUGE portions so when we eat here once it's like getting take out because we always bring home leftovers No one has ever finished their entire meal at our table !!!

$6.95 lunch specials, unlimited fresh baked bread and salad is included. The portions here are good, great actually for the price, and the food is nice and flavorful. Obviously for the price nothing is super fancy but it's all good. The salad is basic, lettuce and tomato with like 2 olives. The service is fast and efficient and you should have no problem getting in and out on your lunch break. I've visited them about 4 times in the past month and have never been disappointed. Service has been the best when seated with Pena.

  • Julie G.

Awesome lunch specials! $6.95 I got a salad, fresh, tasty, homemade rolls, a dish of baked ziti so large my hubby and I could have split it. The cheese and sauce was absolutely delicious! My husband got sausage and peppers, superb!

My mother, my boyfriend, and myself were struggling to find a restaurant that all three of us would be excited to go to. Italian food is one of the few cuisines that all three of us can agree upon, so we did a search for local Italian restaurants and found Italia Mia was highly rated. We found that their price-to-deliciousness ratio was even better than described in previously submitted reviews; excluding a platter clearly meant to serve two, everything on the menu was under $15. This is a rather small establishment, located in a strip mall. They focus more on food than ambiance and you can tell that they take pride in their food. I got the manicotti and it came out nice and hot. It took a couple minutes for it to cool down, so I know it was fresh out of the oven.

This has to be one of the worst places I've ever eaten at in my entire life. My friend said they had great Italian really thought we give it a shot never again. Started with the calamari. They didn't even skin it..the breading was pathetic and it was super bland. For dinner I had the linguini with a mushroom sauce. It came out reeking of garlic in a very sweet marinara sauce. It was terrible. Friend had squid in same tomato sauce equally as bad. The rolls service here are straight from a high school cafeteria .horrible Looking around I could tell people came here for quantity not quality I will never come back and would never recommend it to anyone

  • Lisa ..

Okay, so I came back and the lasagna is delicious. Definitely a repeat customer. I spent $7.99 on the lasagna and had two meals. Even reheated this lasagna rocks. They closed for a family vacation for two weeks and I'm actually missing this place.

  • John L.

I really hate giving one star reviews but this place deserves it. Pizza was horrible. Cheese was cheap, sauce was generic and completely bland and the pepperoni (which they also skimped on) was worse than a chain restaurant. The cheese didn't even cover the entire crust. It's like they added extra crappy sauce to make up for the lack of bad cheese. I also got cheese sticks and $5 for five small (and not very good) cheese sticks is a total ripoff. Once again, I was excited about the good reviews but was sorely disappointed. By far one of the worst pizzas I've ever had. And I had been out and had a few beers too, so what does that tell you?? On top of all this, the staff wasn't very friendly. I came in, picked up the pizza, even tipped the guy. No thank you, no have a good night. This place is worse than horrible. It's an abomination. I will stay as far away from this place as possible. I'm sorry, but really bad pizza makes me mad!

Good Neighborhood Italian. Italia Mia is your basic neighborhood Italian café. It is homey and friendly. Service runs a little hot & cold. But the kitchen is quick. Prices are reasonable and servings are extremely large. We took about half of ours home. Food was very good with a very nice tomato sauce poured over practically everything. This is the kind of place that, if you lived nearby, you would come to regularly

Love everything..including the grouch behind the counter :) lunch specials are fabulous including.the portions

  • Credito C.

You people are crazy for not having a review on here of the ziti , broccoli and sausage for lunch. It's amazing. Heavy on the garlic and olive oil. Sausage cooked perfectly. Mr. Italia Mia behind the counter was straight out of a Family Guy sketch about Italy. I just want to grow a mustache and eat three meals a day in there. "Bippity bopppity Boopity" For real, i love this place and think that you get a good lunch for a reasonable price.

  • Dawn K.

I can't give this place more than 5 stars? WHY?! The server was this adorable woman named Pina who had a wonderful sense of humor and was ready to take our order as soon as we sat down. The side salad was big enough for a meal itself! My husband ordered pizza which is loaded with cheese and I had the manicotti loaded with hot gooey cheese and Alfredo sauce. My mother in law had the stuffed shells which was big enough to feed an army. The garlic knots were TO DIE FOR loaded with enough garlic and melted butter to kill the cast of Vampire Diaries. Overall great. YOU MUST TRY THIS PLACE!

  • Dana S.

OKAY, I tried the pizza a few weeks ago, and it's delicious! I'm a fan. My first experience here wasn't the best one but I was willing to give them another try and I'm super glad I did because their pizza... is sooooo good! We got a regular large one with sausage and it was super yummy, I actually want to order it again.. like right now. CURSE DIETS! Anyways.. I was not a fan of their Shrimp and Chicken Parmesan when I first tried it but I'm willing to go back and eat inside again and give other food another try. Update: I tried their mild wings, you can get 12 for around $8. They aren't bad for being wings from an italian place. No different from getting wings from hungry howies but good if you're in the mood for okay wings. Their fries are pretty good too. This place is mostly good for take out in my opinion.

  • David H.

So, the garlic knots are very rich. Oil, butter and really well saute'd garlic. Had a meatball sub and lasagne and both were tasty if a little under seasoned. But Italian isn't always spicy unless it's certain dishes. Good tomato sauce and cheese. The waitress explained about the calamari which is freshly prepared everyday along with all the other items. Really want to go back and get Stuffed Mushrooms, Calamari and more garlic knots.

  • Casey C.

Just had lunch here with my husband and it was outstanding as usual! Their lunch specials are big portions for small prices, always enough left over for dinner! We tried the calamari for the first time today and it was hands down the best I've had in St Pete. Tentacles and rings, hand seasoned, fried until crispy with a generous serving of tomato sauce for dipping! My husband and I both got the lunch portion of cheese ravioli with meat sauce (50 cents more vs tomato sauce) which we've had before and love. They come with a salad and bread, the bread is just average, nothing spectacular, but still tastey. The star is the house salad dressing, a very simple vinegarette but amazing! I've never tackled one of their sandwiches, but I've seen them pass my table and they are GIANT! We will be back! Only downside is that they aren't open 7 days a week!

  • Jayson L.

It's really nothing deserving of 4-5 stars, when compared to other local Italian restaurants such as GiGi's. The salad was about the saddest sight of white lettuce, green tomatoes, and 2 of the ugliest examples of green olives, I've ever seen. What was good, was the service. All the way around, the service was friendly. The fettuccine alfredo was plentiful, but the sauce was very thin (didn't negatively affect taste), almost watery. Would I go again? Sure, perhaps. Would I go out of my way to eat here? Absolutely not.

Good food and generous portions. I've eaten all of the lunch specials and lately have been ordering subs to go. Always fast service. One of my favorite places to eat.

I'm willing to forgive this place for the whole not open on Monday thing. I've tried to do lunch here 3 times and end up at the less than amazing Italian place across the street. Patience paid off. I pretty much can only echo all that has been said. - Cheap - Great marinara. - Service is authentically Italian. Was just waiting for my motherly waitress with the heavy Italian accent to tell me I need to eat some more... I'm too skinny. (I'm not.) I had the chicken parm sandwich with the most basic of salads ever (then again, it was all of $1.25 to add it). It's a no frills experience - you'll dig it though.

The food was excellent, The red sauce was very flavorful. Food was served piping hot. A great meal. We will eat here again.

Wonderful place. Only been a couple of times, once for pizza and another time for pasta. I really enjoyed the pizza also their rolls. They are light, airy with a thin crispy outside. Great meal.

By far the best pizza around. I have been eating here for years and everything is always consistant . They have the best meatballs as well. The pizza sauce is very flavorful unlike most places. It pays to use quality ingredients. That's why they have been in business since the 80's.

We had some of the worst service I have ever had at a restaurant here last Friday night. I am giving them three stars because of the food alone (except the salad...we will get to that). Our waitress and the other employees basically broke every rule in the restaurant handbook. 1) Employees were sitting in the dining room screaming at each other, talking, bothering customers, singing, etc. Very unprofessional. 2) I asked for cheese on top of my entree instead of sauce on top like this place normally serves it for some reason. The waitress told me it came with the cheese on top. When it arrived it was sauce on top. 3) Our waitress put our order in and then talked to the people in the booth behind us LOUDLY for 20 minutes....the result is #5 4) Our waitress was too lazy to bring us the individual small salad bowls. Instead she brought us a huge plate of nasty, wilted salad with two tomato slices and a few very sad looking pepperoncini's and a bowl of salad dressing and told us we could "fight over it" (really?) 5) The second we started to eat our salad our waitress brought out our entrees. No pause whatsoever in between to eat the salad 6) Our waitress made a rude comment about how we went straight to our entrees and didn't eat the salad (I had to fight to keep my mouth shut. I wanted to tell her there was no way I was eating that nasty salad). 7) Our waitress added our bill up in her head at our table 8) When she went to grab our leftovers to package, she knocked food into my lap 9) She packaged our leftovers by slopping them all together even though we had the combo and wanted to keep the lasagna and shells separated. 10) 60% of our meal we had no drinks. She never bothered to ask us if we wanted refills or refill them. I was so frustrated that I am probably leaving out something that she did. We normally go to this restaurant for lunch and not dinner. It will be awhile before we visit again and we will never eat here at dinnertime again. I would recommend getting the food to go.

I had dinner at this place with my in-laws. For some reason I have a hard time finding decent Italian food in Florida. I have to say it wasn't bad. Not excellent, but very good for FL. I had the chicken parm sub. The sauce was better than expected and the chicken was pretty good. I should have had the pizza, but I have given up on finding good pizza in Florida. The place is sort of divey, but friendly. All the tables were full and we waited abut 15 minutes for a table. The wait staff was attentive and the bread but pretty good.

Amazing bread. Delish meatballs and huge portions. ..come hungry! The lasagna is really great too. Chicken parmigiana is a large portion and tastes great. Italian family dtyle restaurant.

I read all of the reviews for this restaurant on this and several other sites, and was impressed with the overwhelmingly positive feedback. As an Italian and a New Yorker, I was raised to know what a good pie tastes like. When I finally tried this place out (they do NOT deliver as this site would have you believe, btw) I was a little disappointed. The pizza was good.. not great. I would say that the hype really led up to a let down. Had I not read all I had about this place, I would have maybe tried it in passing, and thought it was just fine.

Tasty baked ziti, just like back home in NY metropolitan area. Yummy pizza. Portions feed 2+ for a single entrée. Delicious rolls. Salads are just average and no sweet tea; otherwise I would have given 5 STARS. Exceptional value for the money. Friendly, good service. Atmosphere of local casual joint serves well here. Surprising to find such good food in a strip mall. Great food, good service, convenient parking, cheap prices -it has it all!

Love this place. Love, love, love it! This is a storefront pizza joint that has a lot more than pizza, such as: * Big flavorful sandwiches, both hot and cold varieties. *Scrumptious pasta dishes. Sausage and peppers and ziti with broccoli are outstanding. *If you're a fan of bread, they have some of the best hot rolls that I've ever tasted. You'll probably need a go-box, 'cause they are not stingy with the portions. Usually enough for two meals. Now, about that pizza. It's thin crust, but sadly it's the type that is kinda soggy and limp in the middle. They also cut the sausage like pepperoni instead of the little blobs that I prefer. Strictly personal preference regarding the sausage, but because of this that they don't get a 5th star. This isn't a fancy place; it's simple, laid back and a place to go for some great traditional Italian. Pay attention to the hours. I had such a jones for one of their hot meatball subs, but I went on a Monday. They're closed on Sundays and Mondays. I nearly cried.

It's time for lunch, and I'm in another part of St Petersburg that I know nothiing about. Whatever shall I do?! I know! I'll open my trusty yelp mobile app on my new phone. That's how I found Italia Mia. Fortunately for me, the reviewers were right. The have a host of selections for their $6.25 lunch special. I chose the sausage & peppers with choice of pasta. Gosh, it was good!! There was so much food on the plate that I never had an appetite when the dinner hour rolled around. Maybe next time I will just eat half and take the rest home.

Good quality for the price. Truly a family affair. Big portions to share. Ask for salad dressing on the side.

Very casual joint, but I absolutely love their antipasto salad! It's huge (both the small and the large), but very simple and understated... just the way I like it. Their marinara is excellent and the baked dishes are just divine. All the portions here are huge, but I wouldn't mind sitting around for a while to make my way through them with such friendly service! They make you feel like you're part of the family!

This is an incredibly good restaurant for basic Italian food. This is a pizza and manicotti type Italian restaruant with basic decor. This is not a white tablecloth veal scallopini type place and they're not trying to be. For starters, they have a home-made bread roll that is absolutely the best. A nice crunchy crust but perfectly soft inside. Every entree is served with one and more can be purchased for a nominal fee. Lots of people just love the pizza. The antipasta salad is great - salami, ham, olives, artichoke hearts, roasted red peppers, etc... We have one every time we go. One of their specialties is the deep fried calzones. Yes, deep fried. You have to try one of these at least once. They will also bake them for you if you insist and I'm sure they're good too, but deep fried is the way to go! If you want something great, get the baked ziti with a side of sausage. The sausage is sweet, very good, and I'm pretty sure it's home made. If everyone orders their own meal, you will leave with left-overs (unless you're an absolute glutton) and you will be very full and very satisfied. This place is one of my favorites for basic italian. Note that they are in the corner of a large shopping plaza. You will not see them easily from the street.

Excellent service and food!!! The sauce was the best I have tasted in a long time. Tried their lasagna lunch special, stuffed mushrooms, and meatballs. Will definitely be coming back to try their pizzas next.

This place is always packed for lunch. I have dined in, but typically I order take-away. I have only ever had one entree at Italia Mia, their "steak & cheese with onion sub." Order a "steak, onion, & cheese" and they'll correct you, albeit politely. On the phone when they read back to confirm my order they always say "steak & cheese with onion." I suppose they have me trained now. The sub is excellent. The thin sliced steak is cooked with onions on a griddle. This is added to italian sub bread and covered with provolone cheese to cook in an oven until the bread is toasted and the cheese is melted. The sub is only complete once you add a bit of ketchup!

Great Italian food in a casual environment. It's always hard to decide what to get as they have some of the best pizza in St. Pete, as well as great lasagna and meatballs. The subs are far too large for one person.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
